KZN’s matriculates shine bright: Amajuba district’s class of 2023 results

Congratulations are in order as Kwazulu-Natal’s Class of 2023 outperformed all but one province - coming second only to the Free State with an average pass rate of 86,4% per cent

Basic Education minister, Angie Motshekga, announced the National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examinations results in a Johannesburg yesterday (January 18).

The class of 2023 achieved an overall pass rate of 82,9% per cent surpassing the 80,1 % in the previous year. This was despite the challenges that the students had to overcome.

“The class of 2023 must be commended for maintaining this trend despite the astronomical challenges they faced, “said Motshekga.

Kwazulu-Natal obtained the highest number of bachelor passes contributing to the class of 2023 producing the most bachelors’ passes with distinction in the history of the NSC exams.

This is despite the extra challenges that the students faces such as the KZN floods in 2023.

In his technical breakdown of the matric results, Basic Education Director General Matanzima Mweli said KZN achieved the highest  number distinctions in Mathematics.

The Amajuba district class of 2023 came sixth in the province with a pass rate of 87%.

Amajuba Hoërskool- 97,1%

Ferrum High School – 98,3%

Hope High School: 95,9%

Islamic College Newcastle- 100%

Lincoln Heights- 77,8%

Newcastle High School: 96,0%

Panorama Combined School: 76.3%

St. Oswalds Secondary School- 91,4%

Newcastle Mayor, Xolani Dube, congratulated the class of 2023, saying: “I wish you all the best in your future endeavours. To those who have received unfavourable results – this is not the end of the road – remember that it is better to keep on trying until you win than to give up and never win.”
