Overgrown grass causes serious concerns in Patterson street

Residents feel that this encourages the criminal activity in the area.

Patterson Street residents feel that they are in danger because of the overgrown grass in the area.

“We have made numerous attempts to contact the municipality and have been informed that they are working on a schedule; however, it has been weeks and the situation is becoming worse,” said one unhappy Patterson Street resident.

What the residents find even more perplexing is that the municipality did cut some of the grass from one side of the street, without touching the grass across the road.

Residents worry about their safety because of the long, uncut grass, believing that snakes or criminals could be hiding in the underbrush.

“The lady that stays in the house adjacent to the bush lives with six grandchildren that love to play outside, she lives in constant fear that there may be snakes in the bush that could hurt the kids.”” explained the resident

“With the rise of the criminal activity in town and other residential areas, we are very worried that the bush will attract more criminals into the area,” he continued

The Newcastle Advertiser contacted the Newcastle municipality for comment, but is yet to receive a response regarding any resolution to the problem.

When the issue of overgrown grass was brought up to the municipal authorities at a different public meeting held in ward 2 last week, they acknowledged that the municipality has not been providing the same level of service to the community as it once did.

The municipality informed the public that they have recently purchased new grass-cutting machinery and will soon make their way to the problematic areas.

“We want to enjoy relaxing in our yards without the fear of what lurks behind the bush,” concluded the worried resident.
