Esperanza hosts successful ‘Amazing Race’ fundraiser

Teams entered the race and dashed all over town in a bid to win amazing cash prizes and raise funds for the school.

Esperanza Special Needs School hosted an Amazing Race fundraising event on Saturday (May 4), to raise some much-needed funds for the school that provides care for children with special needs in Newcastle.

Team Bridge Church walked away with the first prize, followed by the Kingsman in second place with the Blazin Bandits third.

Jennifer Pillay, Esperanza Special Needs School principal, was beside herself with emotion when she reflected on the day.

“It was such a beautiful event… a huge success with people all over Newcastle encouraging us to have the next one soon, “she said

She thanked everyone who made the day a success.

“Thank you to the staff, Bruce and Cora Nienaba and everybody else who helped for the day. Thank you to the sponsors Newcastle Mall, NCC College, Walkot Cars, Concord Solutions Jhb, and Dion from Wimpy. Fishaways, Debonairs, Thirsti Waters, Eliza Behle, Newcastle Rehabilitation Centre, Ithemba Security, Hollywood Bollywood – not forgetting the many anonymous people who donated with cash and the teams that did not participate but still blessed us with cash.

“Lots of funds have been raised.  The amazing race is something new and fresh in Newcastle and we are hoping to have the next one soon,” she concluded.
