Funfair and fund-raising in the name of giving to the community

''The Mayfair is our biggest fundraiser of the year; this is a project that helps us give back to the community.''

The Vryheid Lions Club yet again hosted their annual Lions Mayfair at Cecil Emmet over the weekend.
This annual event sees people travelling from near and far to enjoy two days of fun, fund-raising and playing games.
About 15,000 people graced the Mayfair this year, making the event the biggest success since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Vryheid Lions Club member Cindy Mossop commented that, “This year we had patrons coming from different neighbouring towns to be part of the Mayfair; making it the busiest Mayfair so far. The Mayfair is our biggest fundraiser of the year; this is a project that helps us give back to the community. The funds raised plough directly back to the community. We also have different organisations that raise funds for their own charities during the Mayfair.’’
Patrons enjoyed the funfair and took part in different games. The little ones had their faces painted and everyone browsed the variety of stalls on offer. There was laughter galore, and delighted screams punctuated the action.
Cindy thanked all those who showed their support at the Mayfair. “We thank the wonderful community of Vryheid for supporting Mayfair 2024. We would also like to thank CDM Security, RTI Public Safety, SAPS, CPF, KZN Private Ambulance, as well as the Vryheid cricket and rugby clubs for their valuable contributions.”
Next year’s Lions Mayfair is set to take place on May 2 and 3, 2025.
