Local artist on the move to rebuild his brand
“I am currently rebranding and rebuilding; I am working with a powerhouse team, local artists and clothing brands.''
Syanda Ndlangisa Mntungwa is an artist who says he’s rebuilding his brand.
Ndlangisa, who hails from Hlobane and Coronation, says he’s going back to his roots and is ready to give people new music in his genre called ‘African Trap Music’ (Ushuni).
He did his schooling at Hlobane Combined Secondary School and then Vryheid Comprehensive Secondary School. He quips that, in his school days, he aspired to become a pilot or a professional footballer.
Ndlangisa believes that his passion for music was ignited by football, as he would lead songs before and after they went to the field as a way of uniting the team.
After matric, he went on to Majuba College to study Mechanical Engineering. The following year, he went to Durban to continue his studies. He also played football for the college and made it to the first league. He says his biggest highlight was when they played against AmaZulu FC in pre-season.
In 2017, Ndlangisa moved to Johannesburg, where he was in between jobs. That’s when he had time to concentrate on his music. He says he would post his videos on social media and people would respond. He was in awe when Mzilikazi Wa Afrika, who is an investigative journalist and producer, said he wanted to work with him. “Mzilikazi Wa Afrika instilled the musical fire within me and also gave me so many opportunities. I also met Stich the DJ, the creative wizard who made me realise I can be the best as an artist. These gentlemen revived a lot inside me!”
Ndlangisa released his first single in 2021 entitled ‘Recognised’, followed by another single called ‘Iqiniso’. “When I released these singles, I received a very positive response from people around me; they were shocked but also happy with my work.” Ndlangisa also has an EP with six songs called ‘Isibani’. “I am currently rebranding and rebuilding; I am working with a powerhouse team, local artists and clothing brands. We are making music for a larger market now, producing a different type of music with the same voice.”
Ndlangisa is set to ‘drop’ his new project and venture soon. One can catch Ndlangisa on his social media platforms on Instagram he is yanda_mbulazimusic, Tick Tock yandambulazi_music, Facebook he is Yanda Mbulazi Fanbase Aand on YouTube he’s handle is Yanda Mbulazi.
