Police probe fatal shooting at Wembezi cemetery

Gun salutes are known to be performed at military funerals, but are sometimes illegally done at the funeral of a gangster or a security guard

KwaZulu-Natal police say that an investigation is continuing into the freak fatal shooting at Wembezi cemetery on Saturday (September 21).

A Wembezi man was accidentally shot to death at Wembezi cemetery during an unauthorised ‘gun salute’ at the funeral of a security guard.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan explained that, “Maduna Miya (20) was attending the funeral of a security guard in Wembezi when he was allegedly killed by a stray bullet.”

Khan continued that, “Miya was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the incident and said the matter is under investigation.”
