Remains of Afzal Khader identified through DNA

DNA testing has finally confirmed that the human remains found in April this year belong to 25-year-old Afzal Khader who had earlier been reported missing.

Khader was reported missing on March 4 after he was last seen leaving his home in Fernwood.

According to Belinda Ellor of the Newcastle Community Policing Forum, CPF along with various other law officials, family members, and community members immediately launched a mass search.

During the search, a body was found along the banks of the Ncandu River near Asparagus Street; however, at the time it was not confirmed to be that of Khader.

Following a post-mortem and DNA testing, SAPS was finally able to confirm that the remains were Khader’s and delivered the heart-breaking news to the Khader family on Monday, October 21.

The Newcastle Advertiser wishes to extend its sincerest condolences to the Khader family during this difficult time.
