uThukela offers financial assistance to students

A large sum of money was donated to 29 beneficiaries

uThukela District Municipality held an awards ceremony for tertiary students and small businesses at the Ladysmith Town Hall yesterday (October 23). This initiative came about after several enquiries were made to the Mayor’s Office by learners from within the district, seeking financial assistance to further their studies.

uThukela Mayor Inkosi NB Shabalala said they hope that these students will one day be able to give back to communities and change people’s lives. The mayor and his team took a resolution to look for sponsors as a humanity effort to support learners in their quest to reach new heights. Private company Maximum Profit Recovery (MaxProf) was willing to come on board.

MaxProf representative Mr Lebogang said they fully support programmes of this nature, as it takes a village to raise a child. He said they always offer several opportunities, including training and skills transfer. On that note, a large sum of money amounting to R196,000 was donated to 29 beneficiaries to settle their outstanding tuition fees. This money will be divided among the students and paid directly into their respective institutions’ accounts.

Closing off the event, the mayor encouraged and urged the students to find their purpose and passion in life. He said they are the architects of their lives, and intelligence without education is incomplete. He then thanked MaxProf on behalf of the students for funding their academic tuition.
