Two rapists handed hefty sentences by Madadeni Regional Court

The Madadeni Regional Court jailed 23-year-old Siyanda Shabalala for life and an additional four years for the rape and kidnapping of a woman (26) in April 2021.

According to Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications Officer, Lizzy Arumugam, the incident occurred at around 03:00 while the victim was visiting her friend.

Shabalala reportedly approached her, slapped her twice, and then proceeded to drag her to a nearby homestead, where he brutally raped her.

Furthermore, the Newcastle FCS Unit also ensured a successful conviction on October 22, after the Madadeni Regional Court sentenced 21-year-old Sipho Thusi to 18 years in prison for the rape of a 10-year-old girl in 2022.

Thusi was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Amajuba District Commissioner, Major General FB Alexander, commended Sergeant T.P. Mdluli for her exceptional investigative skills and tireless efforts that had been instrumental in securing justice for her victims.

“Your dedication is commendable,” said Alexander.
