NKZNRU host annual general meeting
The Northern KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union (NKZNRU) hosted their annual general meeting at the Arbor Park Sports Grounds, marking a significant gathering for the region's rugby community.
All eight representing rugby clubs attended, alongside newly-appointed general manager, Kerwin-Jean Louis and club administrator, Vernon Chetty.
NKZNRU President, Peet van der Merwe, opened the meeting by expressing gratitude to the clubs for their unwavering commitment to rugby in the sub-unions.
Excitement is already brewing for the 2025 rugby season, van der Merwe said, with discussions with the Mpumalanga Rugby Union having taken place about a potential cross-border and knock-out competition.
After the formal proceedings, an official prize-giving ceremony celebrated the achievements of the 2024 rugby season:
- 1st Division Winners: Piet Retief I
- 2nd Division Winners: Piet Retief II
- 3rd Division Winners: Highlanders III
- Admin Club: Highlanders Rugby Club
- Most Improved Club: Bears Rugby Club
- Best Backline Player: Minnie Sewela (Highlanders)
- Best Forwards Player: Malibongwe Kheswa (Highlanders)
- Patron: FC Bester (Dundee)
- Life Member: Duimpie Kriel (Vryheid)
- Honorary Members: Matras Pretorius (Newcastle), Jakkkie de Jager (Vryheid), and Greyvie Greyvensteyn (Volksrust).
The evening concluded with a lively braai, beverages, and camaraderie, celebrating not only the past season’s successes but also the bonds forged through rugby.
