Summit seeks to address water challenges

The aim is to establish which wards require urgent intervention

Today (January 24) marks the final day of the District Development Model Water Summit held at the Town Hall.

The summit’s purpose is to address the water crisis in the uThukela District.

It also seeks to achieve viable short- and long-term practical and sustainable solutions to address the water challenge in the district.

CoGTA MEC Rev Buthelezi highlighted the fact that many people are not paying for water and encouraged those who can afford to pay, to do so. The MEC mentioned that water purification requires significant financial resources. “Without payment, maintaining clean water becomes unsustainable,” said Buthelezi.

District Champion and National Deputy Minister of Transport M Hlengwa said it doesn’t help to play the blame game or point fingers; the important part is finding lasting solutions to current pressing challenges.
