Ithala clients queue to get their cash

People said they are worried that the bank will be liquidated and they will lose their hard-earned money

Ithala Bank customers were seen converging on the bank’s offices in Harding Street last week and taking their place in a long queue.

This after the Prudential Authority filed an application in the Pietermaritzburg High Court at the beginning of January, seeking the provisional liquidation of the state-owned bank.

Clients were told to use other banks.

Local clients, mostly elderly, told the Estcourt News that they were worried about their money after they heard that the bank had been directed to close its doors. “We are here to get back our money because we were told that the bank has closed,” said one client.

Most of the people queuing up were those who use ‘books’ to bank; clients with bank cards could not get their money because it was frozen.
