Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal JKA Karate Championships to be hosted this Saturday

The Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal JKA Karate Championships will be held on February 22 at the Farmers' Hall in Newcastle.

This is the first major occasion for the 2025 year and promises to be a big one, incorporating 184 events with 160 karateka competing and a combined total of 308 entries from Newcastle, Dundee, Vryheid, Ladysmith, Piet Retief, Hluhluwe, Greytown, Osziweni, and Volksrust.

Refresher table officials and judges’ courses were held in Vryheid and Newcastle, respectively, prior to the competition to review the tournament rules and regulations and competition structure.

The National SA JKA Events & Tournament Director, Sensei Warren Bainton, JKA 6th Dan, will be overseeing the competition and will also give a referee and judging course on Friday evening preceding the tournament to ensure that the national standards are understood and met.

The championship will start at 09:00 on Saturday (February 22) with a tuck shop for spectators and karateka alike.

There is a spectators’ entrance fee of R20 for adults and R10 for children who wish to support the competitors and see what this popular sport is all about.

Anyone wanting to join or requesting information regarding classes and fees is welcome to contact Sensei Johan Swart at 083 658 7157.
