Thrilling clashes as Newcastle Legends FC hosts football festival
Newcastle Legends Football Club (FC) played host to Nomads FC from Johannesburg, Vryheid Masters, and Madadeni Masters on Saturday in a dynamic tournament that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

The event, however, was affected by heavy rainfall in the days leading up to the tournament, leaving the usual venue, Fernwood Sports Ground, unplayable.
The games were relocated to the Newcastle School of Industries, where the action got underway despite soggy conditions.
In the opening match, Vryheid proved to be the superior team against Newcastle Legends, heading into the break with a commanding 3-0 lead.
Legends made a series of changes in the second half and began to mount a comeback. However, it was Vryheid who ultimately sealed the win with a 4-2 victory.
Next up, Nomads faced off against Vryheid in what would prove to be another exciting contest.
The Gauteng side dominated the match, delivering a convincing 4-0 victory over their KZN counterparts, sending a message to the rest of the teams in the province.
Legends then took on Nomads in a thrilling encounter. Both teams went on the attack early, but Shani Balraj, the Legends’ goalkeeper, kept his side in the game with several key saves.
Legends took the lead through Martin Dumakude, who rounded the Nomads keeper to put his side ahead. Nomads responded quickly, finding the equalizer just five minutes later.
In the second half, Akesh Dewlall put Legends back in front with a stunning left-footer from outside the box, catching the Nomads goalkeeper by surprise.
However, Nomads pushed hard for a second goal and were rewarded with a last-minute strike, securing a 2-all draw and leaving Newcastle’s supporters heartbroken.
The final match of the day saw Vryheid take on Madadeni, with Vryheid winning 2-0.
Legends Football Club would like to extend their gratitude to the local community for their unwavering support throughout the event, making it a memorable day of football.
