Itec Freespool falls short as Ladysmith claims victory again
Itec Freespool and Ladysmith met yet again in the NFWAA Zamamena knockout final, which was held at Richgate Park.
Defending champions, Ladysmith, were determined to retain their title and fielded a full team of 25 anglers whose vehicles occupied the first four positions in the queue.
Itec Freespool, on the other hand, was looking to wrestle the title away from Ladysmith and also came with a full complement of anglers.
Zone 2 was chosen as the battleground, and the competition began promptly at 6am with high expectations of good catches.
Anglers went to their chosen hot spots and literally sat all day staring at their bite indicators in the hope that there would be some movement.
Most anglers busied themselves with changing baits and recasting in the hope that this would elicit a positive reaction from the fish, but there was no such luck.
The weigh-in was proof of the poor day’s fishing; only 52 weighable fish were caught between the 50 anglers.
The final points tally saw an elated Ladysmith team emerge winners by 41 points to 32.
Nadeem Esop of Itec Freespool caught the heaviest scaled fish which weighed 2.026kg and Udien Govinder of Ladysmith bagged the heaviest barbel prize.
Ladysmith successfully defended their title and earned a cool R1000 prize money with compliments from Zamamena Construction.
Itec Freespool pocketed R500 for their efforts in finishing as runners-up.
