Lions Ladies bring warmth to Newcastle

The Newcastle Lions Club proudly hosted their Annual Winter Warmer Project at the Industrial area on Saturday (June 21).

The day was a culmination of months of dedicated planning and community spirit. The initiative continues to bring warmth and hope during the harshest months of the year, and witnessing its impact was deeply fulfilling for all involved.

The Lion’s mission remains steadfast: to serve those in need by providing warm clothing, blankets, basic toiletries, and nourishing meals.

A highlight of this year’s event was the Teddy Bear Drive, which brought joy and comfort not only to young children but also to teenagers.

One of the key services offered was diabetes screening, with 52 individuals tested — reflecting our ongoing commitment to health and wellness.

Attendees were able to select clothing tailored to their needs from dedicated sections for ladies, men, babies, girls, and boys. Each family received:

  • Blankets

  • Toiletries – roll-on deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, body soap, and laundry soap

  • Dry foods – including porridge and “food socks” for a nutritious takeaway meal

The Soup Kitchen provided hearty soup, bread rolls, tea, and coffee in a warm, seated area ,ensuring every visitor felt welcomed and cared for.

In total, 550 people came , a turnout that truly warmed the organisers’ hearts.

According to the club, the day’s  success was made possible through the generosity, compassion, and tireless efforts of our donors, supporters, and volunteers.

The Newcastle Lions Club would like to thank their sponsors and partners, Hoffina Eggs, Pam Golding, Broker Assist, Rapportryers, Rotary, GR Engineering, Allwear, Factory Plaza, The Barn, Nashua Maluti, Pick n Pay, Mojos, Amajuba School, Huttenpark, Chess Security, Arbor Park Primary, and Winterfestival.
