Fuel prices expected to drop in September

South African motorists can expect lower fuel costs in September, with petrol and diesel prices set to decrease, according to mid-month data.

Motorists can expect some relief at the pumps in September, with mid-month data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) showing decreases across petrol and diesel prices.

These figures are based on mid-month data and are subject to change before the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announces the official adjustments at the end of the month.

According to current projections:

  • Petrol 93 is expected to decrease by 14c per litre.
  • Petrol 95 is expected to decrease by 6c per litre.
  • Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) is expected to decrease by 51c per litre.
  • Diesel 0.005% (wholesale) is expected to decrease by 52c per litre.

The decline in global oil prices, which have dropped by 10% this year and were lower in August than in July, is the main factor leading to the turnaround in prices.
