Pink parade raises awareness in cancer battle

Survivors and supporters joined Factory Plaza’s 5km Fun Run to raise breast cancer awareness through fitness, talks, and community unity.

A sea of pink filled the streets on Saturday as survivors and supporters laced up for the Factory Plaza‘s 5km Cancer Fun Run in collaboration with the Newcastle Harriers Club.

‘Break the Silence’

Held under the theme ‘Break the Silence‘, the event aimed to raise awareness and show solidarity in the fight against breast cancer.

After the run, organises held a series of talks covering topics including:

  • ‘Breast cancer – a 100m sprint or a marathon’,
  • ‘Physio’s role in the journey of recovery after breast cancer treatment’,
  • ‘The importance of having an up to date signed will and the fees associated with death’.

The guest speakers included Sister Mariana Lourens (social worker with oncology and a cancer survivor), Yolanda Botha (executive business consultant), Sister Heidi Thom (palliative care), ICU Sister Lydia and Annette van Kampen (physiotherapist).
