Get the new number plate by end of November or pay the fine

Expect no mercy from traffic police if you don't have the new number plates.

If you do not have a new format number plate by the end of the month, expect no mercy to be shown by Public Safety or RTI.

All number plates in KwaZulu-Natal must be changed to the new format by November 30, 2025.

So if you are still riding around in a vehicle with an NKR, NCO, NN, NDE, NE or NV number plate, expect to be paying a fine. Either you will be guilty of driving an unlicensed vehicle or at least guilty of driving without a valid number plate.

The compulsory number plate format that has to be done by the end of November 2025

Old style invalid

After November 30, 2025, old-style plates will be considered invalid.

The conversion was mandatory whenever someone renewed their vehicle licence disk since November 2024, so there really would be no excuse you could give.

You have to pay for the new licence plates and will also have received a new logbook as part of the process.

Automatic change

This automatically made your old number plate invalid, as it no longer matched your disk.

So, simply put, if you do not have a new number plate by the end of the month, you will be fined for using the old-style plates.
