Residents demand action over Newcastle West service failures
Newcastle West residents express growing frustration as the municipality fails to respond to a memorandum submitted to Mayor Xolani Dube.
Newcastle West residents say their frustration is growing after the municipality failed to respond to a memorandum on ‘unfair billing and failing services’ handed to Mayor Xolani Dube on November 5.
The Concerned Newcastle Citizens (CNC) organised a march from Trim Park to the municipal offices, demanding answers and immediate action on service delivery failures.
CNC Deputy Chairperson, Dr Mduduzi Hlatshwayo, who led the handover, said the group had still not received feedback from either the mayor or municipal officials.
“We sent emails to enquire, but there has been no response,” he said.
The CNC had given the municipality until November 10 to communicate, but instead, the municipality began hosting meetings from November 11 to 20 with selected wards to discuss revenue collection.
“The wards in the West were not included in this meeting schedule,” Dr Hlatshwayo added.
With no official communication forthcoming, the CNC is now considering its next move. Dr Hlatshwayo said the group will meet with the broader community ‘to get a mandate from them’ on the way forward.
