UPDATE: Second victim dies after R34 head-on collision

A 10-year-old child dies in hospital after a head-on collision on the R34.

KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service has confirmed that a 10-year-old child who was critically injured in the head-on collision on the R34 near Hennie’s Garage earlier this afternoon (Monday) has sadly passed away in hospital.

Craig Botha, spokesperson for KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service, said the child was transported from the scene in a critical condition. “Despite the best efforts of paramedics on scene and medical staff at the hospital, the child later succumbed to their injuries,” he confirmed.

The crash has now claimed the lives of two people, including an adult male who was declared deceased at the scene. The remaining injured patients continue to receive medical treatment. The South African Police Service is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
