Deputy Minister boosts Thalana High with back to school donation

Learners at Thalana High received learning resources as part of the Department of Labour’s Back to School campaign.

Learners at Thalana High School received a welcome boost this week when Deputy Minister of Labour Jomo Sibiya, MP, visited the school as part of the department’s Back to School campaign.

During the visit, Sibiya handed over much-needed teaching and learning resources, including scientific calculators, science kits and laptops, aimed at strengthening learning in key subjects such as mathematics and science.

Call for excellence

Addressing learners, the deputy minister urged them to build on the school’s 2025 matric results and to aim for excellence rather than merely passing.

“Our drive is to motivate learners to improve on the 82.8% achieved in 2025 to reach 100%. We do not just want a pass, but quality results,” Sibiya said.

He emphasised the importance of discipline, commitment and making full use of the resources provided to improve academic outcomes.

The donation forms part of government’s ongoing efforts to support schools at the start of the academic year and to equip learners with the tools they need to succeed. Sibiya also visited schools in Nquthu earlier, where similar donations were made.
