Investigation after man’s body is found in Estcourt river

The body was lodged between trees in the water.

Estcourt detectives are conducting an investigation after a man’s body was found in a river in the Estcourt area.

According to SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan, the Ladysmith K9 Search and Rescue Unit responded to a report on Thursday afternoon (January 22) of a body sighted in the Bushman’s River on a farm near Estcourt. Warrant Officer Jacques Meyer of the Ladysmith K9 Unit recovered the body of an unknown male believed to be about 30 years old.

The body was found lodged between trees in the river and was in an advanced stage of decomposition.

Estcourt detectives are currently working to establish the identity of the deceased and to determine whether he may be linked to a reported missing person case.
