School issues safety warning after learner is accosted

A Grade 12 pupil narrowly escaped being abducted by two men on her way to school.

Lincoln Heights Secondary School has issued an urgent safety warning after a Grade 12 learner was allegedly nearly kidnapped by two unknown men on Saturday morning (January 31) while walking to school.

The school shared the alert in a statement on its official Facebook page earlier today (February 2).

The incident

According to the statement, the learner informed the school that she had faced a frightening ordeal when two men in a white TSI vehicle allegedly tried to force her into their car by grabbing her school bag.

The learner claimed she struggled with the men while shouting for help. A nearby worker noticed the commotion and ran towards the vehicle, prompting the men to flee and allowing the learner to escape.

“She was left shaken but grateful to be safe and unharmed,” said a teacher at the school.

The school could not confirm whether the learner had reported the incident to police, but said they had advised her to do so.

Following the incident, the school reminds all learners to take the following safety precautions:

  • Avoid walking alone, especially when travelling to and from school.
  • Walk in groups, particularly when crossing the bridge.
  • Report any suspicious people or vehicles immediately.
