Strong performances and milestones mark lively Vryheid parkrun
Fast times, personal bests and a 50th milestone energise another Vryheid parkrun.
Vryheid parkrun delivered another lively Saturday morning as runners turned out in good spirits, with strong performances, milestones and several newcomers adding to the atmosphere.
Dlamini secures fifth parkrun victory
Siyathokoza Dlamini crossed the line first, recording an impressive finishing time of 18:26. The win marked his fifth first-place finish at Vryheid parkrun over the past year, confirming his consistent form on the local course.
Mnguni leads women’s field
Smangele Mnguni led the women’s field, finishing sixth overall. A regular top 10 finisher, Mnguni once again demonstrated her strength with a solid run that placed her well among the front-runners.
Newcomers and visitors welcomed
The event also welcomed a number of first-time participants and visitors from Pongola and Piet Retief, who were warmly received by the Vryheid parkrun community. The organisers said it was encouraging to see new faces on the course and expressed hope that visitors would return for future events.
Personal bests across the field
Several regular runners achieved personal best times, highlighting the depth of effort across the field. Alex, Lungelo, DM, Janika, Gerda, Birgit, Vincenta and Rika all recorded new personal bests during the run.
50th parkrun milestone celebrated
A special milestone was celebrated by Marie du Preez, who completed her 50th parkrun, earning recognition from fellow participants and volunteers.
Important reminder on finish-line procedures
The event organisers also used the opportunity to remind runners about finish-line procedures and the importance of bringing a parkrun barcode. Runners are required to remain in the finish funnel after crossing the line so that times, positions and barcodes can be accurately recorded. A newly-introduced funnel manager will assist participants at the finish line to ensure that results are correctly captured.
Barcode safety and emergency details highlighted
The organisers further highlighted that parkrun barcodes are linked to emergency contact details, which are vital should medical assistance be required during an event. Participants were encouraged to ensure their information is up to date and to bring their barcode, whether printed, on a phone or worn as a wristband.
