Shree Ganaser Temple welcomes visitors from Durban

The tourists expressed excitement and promised to visit Ladysmith again.

The Ladysmith Hindu Thirukootam & Shree Ganaser Temple warmly welcomed about 80 tourists from the Newlands Senior Citizens Social Club in Durban today (February 4).

During their visit, the club members got to see the newly-unveiled Lord Ganesha murthi which stands about 17m tall. They also prayed together, along with members of the temple committee. Excitement was the order of the day, with the visitors enthusing that they were really impressed with the temple and will visit again.

”We hired a bus to come and see the magnificent Lord Ganesha, which is the largest one in Africa. We came with a single bus, but next time we will come with two buses because we will recruit others to also join us,” said Jo-Jo Rajcoomar. The Newlands senior citizens went on to express gratitude to the temple for hosting them and providing them with lovely food for lunch.

Ward 20 Councillor Abbas Warasally was among those who welcomed the tourists. Warasally said it was great to see that all the effort put into the statue (murthi) had not gone to waste, as the temple now receives tourists from all over KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and internationally who come to visit his ward. “I am so proud that I have this statue in my ward,” commented Warassally.

Guru Krishnamoorthy from the Ladysmith Hindu Thirukootam & Shree Ganaser Temple said it was such a great honour to have welcomed these visitors from Durban.
