Vryheid High celebrates academic and sporting excellence

Vryheid High School celebrates academic awards, athletics success and strong community support.

On Friday, Mr van den Heever proudly represented Vryheid High School (VHS) at the AbaQulusi NSC Prize-Giving Ceremony. The school celebrated several remarkable achievements, showcasing both academic excellence and dedicated teaching.

Kwanele Mtimkhulu received a prestigious award for placing second in the entire AbaQulusi District, a commendable accomplishment that reflects both hard work and commitment.

Several educators were also honoured for their outstanding subject pass rates above 90%.

VHS further received recognition for achieving an impressive 97% pass rate, placing the school among the top high-enrolment institutions in the district.

Inter-house athletics meeting a resounding success

VHS hosted its annual Inter-house Athletics Meeting on Thursday, an energetic and spirited event marked by friendly competition and school pride. Learners participated in a range of events including the 200m and 400m sprints, high jump, long jump, shot put, discus and javelin.

A highlight of the day was the grand entrance by the matric class, who arrived in a vibrant motorcade, much to the excitement of fellow learners and spectators. The event concluded with enthusiasm and camaraderie, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.

Prize-giving for athletics took place on Monday, where top performers were awarded trophies for their achievements. The Green Team emerged as the overall winners of the 2026 Inter-house competition.

Teagan Meyer stood out prominently this year, securing multiple top honours and cementing her status as one of the school’s leading young athletes.

Annual golf day brings community together

The annual golf day, held on Friday, was a resounding success. Staff, parents and community members enjoyed a sunny day on the greens, which concluded with an exciting session of night golf. The school expresses heartfelt appreciation to the many sponsors whose support made the event possible.
