Residents of Ezakheni D-Section are collecting water from a burst pipe along Stimela Road after being left without a regular water supply for several weeks.

Community members say the pipe started leaking following heavy rainfall over the past two weeks. Since then, they have had no alternative source of water and have been forced to rely on the leaking pipe for their daily needs, including cooking, washing and drinking.

Despite the ongoing challenge, some residents say the leaking pipe has become their only lifeline. One community member said they are grateful for the leak, explaining that without it, the area would have no access to water at all.

“At least now we have water,” the resident said. “If the pipe wasn’t leaking, we wouldn’t have anything.”

However, others expressed concern about the condition and safety of the water, saying it is worrying because the water mixes with dirt and could be contaminated. “The water mixes with mud and even animal waste,” one resident said. “The way it is leaking now is not the same as before. It looks like the flow has reduced, although water is still coming out, which is why we continue to collect it.”

Residents are calling on the relevant authorities to urgently repair the damaged pipe and restore a reliable and safe water supply to the community.
