St Dominics Newcastle save lives this Valentines
Learners give 31 units of blood and inspire hope during a Valentine’s Week drive.
As Valentine’s Week reminded us to celebrate love in all its forms, the learners of St Dominics Newcastle chose a powerful way to show theirs – by giving the ultimate gift: the gift of life.
On Tuesday, February 10, our High School hosted a Blood Donation Drive in partnership with the South African National Blood Service, and the response from learners was nothing short of inspiring.

For many, this marked their very first blood donation experience
While not every learner was able to donate on the day, the courage, enthusiasm, and willingness to step forward spoke volumes about the character of our young people.
In total, 41 learners presented themselves as donors, resulting in 31 units of blood collected – a contribution that could potentially save up to 93 lives.
In a week often associated with cards, chocolates, and flowers, our learners demonstrated that love can also look like compassion, service, and putting others first. Their actions reflected a deep sense of social responsibility and empathy, values we strive to nurture at St Dominics Newcastle.
We extend our sincere gratitude to every learner, staff member, and partner who made the day a success. Moments like these remind us that when young people are given opportunities to serve, they rise with heart and purpose.
St Dominics Newcastle looks forward to hosting another blood donation drive in Term 2 as we continue encouraging our learners to make meaningful, life-changing contributions to the wider community.
“Because this Valentine’s Week, our learners proved that the strongest kind of love is the one that saves lives.”
