Municipality approves prepaid electricity rebates from March
Residents of AbaQulusi Municipality will receive prepaid electricity rebates from March 1.
Residents of AbaQulusi Municipality will soon benefit from prepaid electricity rebates approved by Council, set to take effect from March 1.
In Public Notice 10/2026, the municipality confirmed that customers purchasing prepaid electricity will receive two tokens on their vending voucher. The first token reflects the electricity units purchased, while a second token, labelled the ‘Rebate Token’, must also be entered into the prepaid meter to ensure proper allocation of the rebate.
Municipal Manager SP Dlamini explained that both tokens must be captured on the meter keypad. Rebate tokens are non-transferable and non-refundable, and will only be issued for the specific meter linked to the original purchase.
The rebate programme will run until June 30.
Supported vending channels
- Residents are encouraged to use approved vendors to ensure they receive the rebate token. Supported channels include:
- Contour vendors (handheld vendors)
- Municipal vendors (handheld vendors)

Important notes for residents

The municipality has urged residents to carefully follow instructions when entering tokens and to ensure they purchase electricity through supported vendors to avoid missing out on the rebate benefit.
