VHS learners shine in sport, charity and conservation
VHS learners excel in sport, charity work and environmental education.
On March 4, VHS hosted sport matches against Ondini High School. We would like to thank Ondini for making the trip and for the great sportsmanship shown on the day. The U/15, 2nd team and 1st team netball players all enjoyed competitive and exciting games, while the U/16 rugby team also took to the field for an enjoyable match.
Tortoise presentation at VHS EcoClub
On March 6, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife visited the VHS EcoClub to present an engaging and informative session on tortoises. Using rescued Leopard tortoises, the presentation aimed to raise awareness about these incredible animals and the importance of their conservation.
Learners gained valuable insight into tortoise biology, their natural habitats, and why it is important to protect them in the wild. The highlight for many students was the opportunity to interact with the tortoises, which sparked a strong interest in wildlife conservation.
A special thank you goes to Frikkie Bekker, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Honorary Officer, and his son Phillip, for sharing their knowledge and passion with our learners. Your efforts inspire the next generation to care for and protect our environment.
The presentation was both educational and engaging, and the EcoClub looks forward to many more collaborations with Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.

VHS Interact Club’s heartwarming charity drive
The VHS Interact Club recently made a meaningful impact with their charity drive for the Inkululeko Children’s Home. On Saturday, March 7, the club collected more than 3000 items, including food, toiletries and clothing. This was reportedly the largest single donation the home has ever received.
The event was a great success thanks to the dedication of the Interact Club members, who not only collected donations but also spent time socialising and meeting new people. The experience helped build their confidence in public speaking while giving back to the community.
The club would like to thank their sponsors, Promo Direct and Marusckha Scholtz (Marketing Manager), for their support, as well as everyone who contributed to the donation drive.
“We have made a lasting impact in these amazing children’s lives,” the club said in a statement.

Netball tour to Kroonstad
The VHS U/16 and First team netball girls recently returned from a successful tour to Kroonstad. Upon arrival on Friday, the girls participated in a very valuable netball clinic presented by former Protea netball player, Anchen Nel. We would like to thank her for the excellent coaching and guidance she shared with our players.
On Saturday, the teams played several matches against Trio High School. The 1st team lost to Trio’s 1st team but secured a win against their 2nd team.
The U/16A team showed great sportsmanship and improvement throughout the tour, narrowly losing 12–13 to Trio’s U/16A side and winning convincingly 18–8 against Trio’s U/16B team.
The netball teams would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Sarel Cilliers High School for allowing us to use their sprinter to travel to Kroonstad for our tour. Your support and generosity are greatly appreciated.
