Local municipality wins multiple Excellence Awards

Alfred Duma wins big at Municipal Excellence Awards

Alfred Duma Local Municipality (ADLM) walked away with top honours at the Municipal Excellence Awards held in Durban last night (March 12). They walked away with several key awards and were crowned the Overall Winner at the prestigious ceremony.

The awards were hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (KZN CoGTA), under the leadership of MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi, recognising municipalities across the province that demonstrate excellence in governance, financial management and service delivery.

Top awards across key municipal services

During the ceremony, ADLM received recognition in several important categories that highlight the municipality’s performance in financial management and emergency services.

They won the ‘Best Sustained Sound Financial Management Award’, recognising strong financial oversight and responsible management of public funds. It also received the ‘Most Functional Disaster Management Centre Award’, which acknowledges the effectiveness of its disaster preparedness and response systems.

Further recognition came with the ‘Most Functional Municipal Fire and Rescue Services Award’, celebrating the municipality’s commitment to maintaining reliable and efficient emergency response services for residents.

The overall winner received R1.5 million 

In addition to these achievements, ADLM was announced as the Overall Winner of the Municipal Excellence Awards. As part of this recognition, the municipality received a cheque of R1.5 million.

Under the leadership of Mayor Zama Sibisi, the municipality’s success at the awards reflects the dedication and hard work of the entire municipal team as they continue working to improve services for communities across the municipal jurisdiction.
