Road project halted amid payment delays

Construction halts on P34-5 project due to payment delays from Transport Department.

Work on a key road project has been temporarily suspended following payment delays.

Construction halted due to non-payment

n a notice issued to PLC members, TEFLA Group confirmed that construction on Project P34-5 has been halted after an agreement with the Employer’s Agent (EAR), citing non-payment by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport.

Contractor de-establishes site

The contractor has also de-established its plant on site, indicating that remaining idle would result in significant additional costs.

According to the notice, work will only resume once outstanding payments have been received. TEFLA Group has indicated that it will require approximately seven days to re-establish on site before construction can continue.

Awaiting response from MEC

An enquiry has since been submitted to the office of the MEC for Transport, Siboniso Duma, regarding the situation. At the time of publication, no response had been received.

Concerns over project delays

The suspension raises further concerns about delays to infrastructure projects in the region, particularly as communities await improvements to key transport routes.
