Local runners deliver strong performances across marathons and races over the weekend.
Local runners delivered outstanding performances this past weekend, competing in various marathons and races on April 11.
Strong showing at South 32 Hippo Marathon
Two athletes took on the challenging South 32 Hippo Marathon in Richards Bay. Amanda Vergottini finished in an impressive time of 04:12:36, securing 7th place overall among women and third in her age category. Jabulani Ndwandwe also ran a strong race, finishing in 04:33:26. Both athletes successfully qualified for the Comrades Marathon.
Solid results at Coastal Hire Battlefields Marathon
Meanwhile, five runners travelled to Newcastle to participate in the Coastal Hire Battlefields Marathon. Jaco Booysen completed the 42.2 km race in 05:24:53, while Jeffrey Smith crossed the finish line in a solid time of 05:10:42.
Half marathon highlights and personal bests
In the half marathon (21.1 km), four runners represented the club with distinction. Smangele delivered an exceptional performance, finishing as the 3rd lady overall and second in her age category with a time of 01:44:06. Ntombi Ndima recorded a strong time of 02:02:52. Micheelle Baeta achieved a personal best in the half marathon, clocking 02:02:49, placing 7th overall among women and fourth in her category.
Comeback performance in 10km race
In the 10 km race, Bongiwe Zulu made a commendable comeback after injury, finishing in an excellent time of 01:42:49.
