Victory Haven shelter praised during MEC’s oversight visit

The visit focused on Freedom Day and the protection of vulnerable children.

Oversight visit in Ladysmith

MEC for Social Development Ms Mbali Shinga conducted an oversight visit to Victory Haven in Ladysmith today (April 21). The MEC was accompanied by Head of Department and Operation Sukuma Sakhe Champion for Ugu District Ms Nokuthula Khanyile.

Supporting victims of abuse

Established in 2008, Victory Haven Child Welfare CYCC & Shelter provides a safe and supportive environment for women and children affected by abuse. Partly funded by the Department of Social Development, the shelter can accommodate up to 20 children and 10 adult women, along with their dependent children.

Focus on Freedom Day and children’s rights

During the visit, Shinga reflected on the significance of Freedom Day and highlighted the constitutional rights of children. She praised the facility for its cleanliness and the quality of care provided.

Call for collaboration

The MEC encouraged stakeholders to work together to strengthen support for vulnerable communities, expressing appreciation for the shelter’s role in providing critical services.
