Mayor launches Newcastle budget consultation programme
The programme is aimed at improving service delivery and municipal planning.
As part of its constitutional and legislative obligation to facilitate public involvement in the planning and budgeting processes for the new financial year, Newcastle Local Municipality Mayor Xolani Dube kick-started the 2026/2027 Mayoral Integrated Development Plan (IDP)/Budget/PMS Imbizo Consultation Programme today (April 28) at the Town Hall.
The community engagement brought together ward committees, IGR reps, youth and government structures, forums, interfaith and ministerial associations, NGOs and FBOs.
The municipal leadership reflected on the budget and financial expenditure for the previous financial year.
The first day of the consultation programme marked the start of a series of meetings which will be conducted until May 8.

These engagements will outline the municipality’s plans and processes to accelerate service delivery in all areas across Newcastle.
Furthermore, the consultation meetings aim to serve as a catalyst for strengthening institutional performance and improving quality of life for the residents of Newcastle.
