ANC withdraws motion against Newcastle mayor

The ANC returned with a decision to withdraw the 'motion of no confidence' after a five-minute caucus.

Special council meeting

Newcastle Municipality held a special council meeting today (April 8) at council chambers after the ANC put forward a ‘motion of no confidence’ against the mayor, Cllr Xolani Dube.

Among the parties present were the DA, Action SA, EFF, FF and IFP (ruling party of the municipality).

Motion withdrawn

After the ANC members present called for a five-minute caucus, the party returned with a decision to withdraw the ‘motion of no confidence’.

Mayor speaks

Mayor Dube was given a chance to speak, saying ‘I accept the ANC’s withdrawal but I do so with a heavy heart.”
