The ‘Clean Streets of Ladysmith’ campaign begins Saturday

More than 180 volunteers will tackle Ladysmith pollution hotspots this weekend.

Local content creator Samie Fortune is leading a major community clean-up campaign set to take place across Ladysmith this Saturday (May 9), as residents unite to tackle pollution and environmental neglect.

Volunteers to target pollution hotspots

Participants will gather at the Game parking area opposite the Crown Hotel at 08:00 before being transported to identified clean-up sites. Clean-up operations are expected to begin at 10:00.

The first focus area will be the Lyell Street bridge between the taxi rank and Boxer Supermarket, where serious littering and sanitation concerns have been reported.

Strong community response

More than 180 volunteers have already signed up for the initiative, which aims to improve the town’s appearance, promote environmental awareness, and create safer public spaces.

Organisers say the campaign is non-political and will continue beyond Saturday, with additional clean-up operations planned for other affected areas in Ladysmith.
