Protesters raise concerns about crime and illegal trading

Residents marched through the CBD to demand action against illegal immigration, illicit trading and rampant drug abuse.

Tensions ran high this morning (May 12) as dozens of protesters marched from Newcastle Taxi City to the park in Hospital Street.

According to the organisers, the march aimed to raise concerns about illegal immigration, illicit trading and rampant drug abuse in the Newcastle CBD and industrial area.

Marchers call for fair trading and safer communities

The organisers said the intention was not to instil fear or disrupt businesses, but rather to call for fair and transparent trading permits for those operating in the CBD and industrial areas.
