Uys siblings earn South Africa kickboxing call-up
Jonathan and Rolinda Uys need community support to compete in Italy later this year
Young Newcastle athletes Jonathan and Rolinda Uys have exceeded even their own expectations since taking up kickboxing.
They have achieved every goal they set for themselves and more.
Now they face an exciting new challenge after being selected to represent South Africa at the WAKO Youth World Kickboxing Championships in Italy in September 2026.
The talented siblings are not only accomplished competitors, but also shining examples of dedication, resilience and South African pride.
Jonathan makes history
Jonathan made history last year as South Africa’s first para-kickboxing athlete. He has won gold at national level for two consecutive years.
“His journey is nothing short of inspirational, proving that determination can overcome any obstacle,” said Malinda Uys.
Rolinda has also delivered consistently strong performances, earning double silver medals at national competitions for two consecutive years.
According to Malinda, Rolinda’s commitment and passion for the sport continue to drive her towards international success.
A dream with a significant cost
Together, the siblings now have the honour of representing South Africa on the world stage, but the opportunity comes with a significant financial challenge. The total cost for both athletes to compete in Italy is approximately R120,000.
This includes:
- Flights and travel costs
- Accommodation
- Competition fees
- Gear and preparation expenses
“As much as they have the talent and drive, they cannot make this journey alone,” said Malinda.
How the community can help
Malinda said any sponsorship, regardless of the amount, would make a meaningful difference.
Support can include: Financial contributions as well as assistance with travel costs or equipment. Also business sponsorships in exchange for brand exposure.
“By supporting Jonathan and Rolinda, you are not only investing in two athletes, but also in South African excellence, perseverance and future champions.”
For sponsorship opportunities or more information, contact Malinda on 084 054 7024.
“Your support can turn their dream into reality,” she concluded.
