Burst pipe floods Cochrane Road

An urgent appeal has been made to uThukela to carry out repairs before the situation worsens further.

Residents and especially parents are growing increasingly frustrated after a water pipe burst in Cochrane Road over the weekend, leaving the pavement flooded and muddy near a local aftercare centre.

According to the aftercare owner, the pipe burst on Saturday (May 16) and has still not been repaired, despite numerous reports being made to uThukela District Municipality.

Parents struggle during school pick-up

The continuous flow of water has made conditions difficult for parents collecting their children, with water covering sections of the pavement and surrounding area.

Children unable to play outside

The ongoing leak has also affected daily activities at the centre. The aftercare owner said the children have been unable to play outside due to the wet and muddy conditions caused by the leaking pipe.

“It’s full of water and mud outside, so the children can’t even use the play area,” she said.

Calls for urgent repairs

Residents are now calling on uThukela to urgently attend to the burst pipe before conditions worsen further.

At the time of publishing, uThukela had not commented despite attempts to obtain feedback.
