Youth Month event empowers Glencoe learners through sport and education
Learners gained valuable life skills as Youth Month celebrations combined education, safety awareness and sport.
Glencoe SAPS, in partnership with the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and various stakeholders, hosted a successful Youth Month awareness event at Glencoe Rugby Stadium on June 10.
The initiative aimed to empower young people through crime prevention education, promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen partnerships between law enforcement agencies and communities, and encourage participation in positive recreational activities.
Approximately 300 learners, educators, community members and stakeholders from across the Endumeni area attended the event.
A series of presentations addressed issues affecting young people, including substance abuse, bullying, rape, robbery, gender-based violence and other youth-related crimes.
Speakers encouraged learners to make informed decisions, respect the rights of others, report criminal activity and become actively involved in community safety initiatives.
The event was supported by members of Glencoe SAPS, Wasbank SAPS, Dundee SAPS and the Umzinyathi District Communication Office, highlighting the South African Police Service’s commitment to youth development and crime prevention.
Sport reinforces positive choices
Several organisations and institutions partnered with the initiative, including the Community Policing Forum, the Department of Education, Mpisini Primary School, Biggarsberg Primary School, Sebenzakusakhanya Secondary School, ML Sultan School, the Department of Correctional Services, Department of Health, Endumeni Local Municipality, Matla and Old Mutual.
“Stakeholders provided valuable information and resources aimed at equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to make positive life choices,” said SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Siyabonga Nkwanyana.
As part of promoting social cohesion and healthy lifestyles, learners participated in soccer, netball and tug-of-war competitions throughout the day.
The sporting activities encouraged teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship and positive interaction while creating an enjoyable atmosphere for all participants.
In a gesture of appreciation and partnership, Glencoe SAPS and the Glencoe CPF presented gifts to the Wasbank CPF in recognition of their continued support of community safety initiatives.
Prizes were also awarded to winning teams and participants following the sporting activities.
They thanked all sponsors, stakeholders, educators, learners, community members and volunteers whose contributions helped make the Youth Month celebration both impactful and memorable.
