Residents threaten action as dumping blights Dundee
Residents have raised concerns over illegal dumping and littering in Dundee, with some threatening action.
Residents have begun referring to their town as “Dumpdee” as illegal dumping and littering continue to worsen across Dundee and Glencoe.
Vacant plots are increasingly being used as dumping sites, with the corner of Albert and Wilson streets emerging as a particular hotspot. Frustrated residents have warned that they may take stronger action against those caught illegally disposing of rubbish and building rubble.
While Dundee and Glencoe pride themselves on attracting visitors eager to explore the area’s world-famous battlefields, the growing dumping problem is damaging the appearance of the municipal area and raising concerns among residents.
The Courier receives frequent complaints from residents about the unlawful disposal of household refuse, garden waste and building rubble.
The ongoing gatherings at local parks, which have been linked to littering and other anti-social behaviour, have also drawn criticism. Residents say the municipality’s efforts to address the problem by installing large refuse bins in the parks have had little impact.
Municipal workers cannot keep up with the indiscriminate dumping
Although municipal workers continue to work hard to maintain a clean and attractive environment, many residents believe the community must also take responsibility for keeping the town tidy.
“There is only so much the municipality can do,” said one resident. “People need to stop dumping rubbish wherever they please and start taking pride in where they live.”
Residents are urging authorities to enforce existing bylaws more strictly and are calling on community members to report those responsible for illegal dumping.
Many believe that only a combined effort between the municipality and residents will help restore the town’s appearance and prevent further environmental damage.
