Squash club hosts Mafia fundraiser to help boost renovations
The players showed that 'organised crime' also has a place on the squash court.
Newcastle Squash Club hosted a fun Mafia-themed fundraiser and social evening last week to raise much-needed funds for the upkeep and renovation of the clubhouse.
The evening featured a unique competition format, with players divided into two divisions. Matches were played over 10-minute periods, with teams aiming to score as many points as possible within the allotted time.

- First Division: Owain and Mathew
- Second Division: Elmarie and Armand
- The prize for best dressed went to: Leon and Ockie
- The lucky raffle winner was: Cliff de Valence
Sponsors and supporters recognised
The club thanked Fentons Engineering Supplies for sponsoring the raffle prize and also thanked the players for helping to make the event a success.
Upcoming fundraising initiative
The club will host a Country and Western Dance themed fundraising initiative on July 31 at the Drakensberg Primary School Hall from 17:30.
Tickets will cost R100 a person and tables for 10 are also available upon request. Bring your own picnic baskets along and enjoy a fun-filled evening.
