Security guards extinguish fires near Eventide

Security guards acted swiftly after fires near Eventide threatened the health of vulnerable residents.

Quick-thinking security personnel came to the aid of Eventide residents late on Monday evening after pavement fires created a potentially dangerous situation for elderly and frail residents.

The fires were allegedly lit by homeless people on the pavement in Smith Street, adjacent to the residential care facility, apparently in an attempt to keep warm during the cold weather.

However, smoke from the fires drifted into the facility, causing concern among residents. Several residents reportedly struggled to breathe, including some who rely on oxygen and other respiratory support.

Health of the frail was at risk

As the situation worsened, a call for assistance was made to ADT, whose security officers patrol the area.

Security guards responded promptly, using their own fire extinguishers to put out the flames before removing the homeless individuals from the immediate vicinity.

Residents praised the swift response, saying the guards’ actions helped prevent what could have become a serious health risk.

Eventide residents expressed their gratitude to the security officers for responding quickly despite the late hour and helping to ensure the safety and well-being of those living at the facility.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns around public safety, homelessness and the risks posed by open fires in residential areas during the winter months.
