IEC commissioner visits uThukela voting stations

The officials visited voting stations to monitor the voter registration process and engage with electoral officials and community members.

IEC National Commissioner Glen Mashinini and IEC uThukela Regional Manager Mpumelelo Sithebe today (June 21) visited the uThukela region in Ladysmith on the second day of the voter registration weekend.

The officials visited voting stations in Steadville to monitor the voter registration process and engage with electoral officials and community members.

Voters accept changes to affected voting districts

Sithebe said they had visited the Inkanyezi Special School Voting District (VD) and the Area J Community Hall VD, which are among the voting districts affected by recent Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) changes. He said the officials observed that voters had accepted the changes and were adapting well to the new voting arrangements.

The IEC delegation later proceeded to the Thembisizwe VD in Ema200, as well as voting districts in Ezakheni to continue monitoring registration activities.

Mashinini stresses the importance of on-the-ground oversight

Mashinini said it was important for IEC leaders not to remain in their offices, but instead to visit communities and observe firsthand how voter registration is progressing.

He said the visit was part of the IEC’s preparations for the upcoming Local Government Elections and would help the commission understand challenges on the ground while ensuring that the registration process runs smoothly.
