A shooting took place today (June 24) after the Peacetown turn-off, near a local farm.

A farmer in the area, who asked to remain anonymous, said he heard two gunshots and immediately rushed to investigate. He reported seeing a vehicle quickly leaving the scene with the injured person, who was being rushed to hospital.

It has since been reported that the victim was declared dead on arrival.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan confirmed the incident, saying that Ladysmith SAPS have opened an inquest docket as investigations continue.
