Three die in midnight shooting near Glencoe

Three people died and a fourth was injured in a late-night shooting near Glencoe.

Three people were killed and a fourth seriously injured in a shooting in the Sithembile area near Glencoe shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Ward 3 Councillor Mbulelo Phakathi said a ward committee member contacted him at about 00:40 after hearing a barrage of gunshots and fearing an attack was underway.

The councillor was later informed that four neighbours had been shot. Three were declared dead at the scene, while the fourth was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Phakathi, who visited the scene shortly afterwards, said the victims were found where they had been shot.

“The victims were travelling in a maroon Volkswagen Polo. The gunmen appeared to be travelling in two vehicles,” he said.

The motive for the attack remains unknown.

Police have been approached for comment and further details, and the Courier has been referred to the Provincial SAPS officer in Durban. There has yet to be a response to the queries. The investigation is continuing.
