Peaceful ‘March and March’ held in Ladysmith
The marchers made their way through town, handing over two memorandums.
Marchers gathered at Settlers Park this morning (June 30) for the planned ‘March and March’, a peaceful demonstration calling for stronger law enforcement, improved immigration processes, police accountability and safer communities.
The marchers made their way through the Ladysmith CBD before stopping at the police station, where the organisers handed over a memorandum of demands.

Memorandum to SAPS
The memorandum called for the lawful enforcement of South Africa’s immigration laws, including increased verification of undocumented foreign nationals, quarterly feedback to the community, and a joint documentation verification drive with the Department of Home Affairs within 30 days.
It also called for an independent investigation into allegations of police corruption, notification of IPID, internal SAPS investigations, and regular Community Policing Forum meetings to improve communication and public safety.
Home Affairs handover
The march then continued to Home Affairs, where a second memorandum was handed over. Organisers urged the department to work with the SAPS on a lawful documentation verification drive and requested better co-ordination, a designated liaison officer, and written feedback to the community.
Route and conclusion
From Home Affairs, they continued along Alexandra Street, into Kandahar Avenue, before returning via Murchison Street to Settlers Park, where the peaceful march concluded and the participants dispersed.
