City of Refuge Super League delivers thrilling weekend action
City of Refuge Super League teams battled through exciting matches, with Aura Galaxy and Munawarah securing impressive wins.
The City of Refuge Super League continued last weekend with a series of exciting encounters.
At the School of Industries grounds, Newcastle Legends faced City of Refuge. On a cold day, both teams were slow to settle, but City of Refuge began to dominate as the match progressed.
Legends defended strongly but struggled to create momentum.
Football can be unforgiving, and Legends were awarded a penalty after a handball offence.
They converted the opportunity and held on for a narrow 1-0 victory.
Aura Galaxy edge SOI in fiery contest
Aura Galaxy and School of Industries (SOI) produced a fiery contest in the next match.
Galaxy applied early pressure, quickly closing down SOI and forcing them into mistakes.
It was no surprise when Aura Galaxy took the lead from a cross that deceived the SOI goalkeeper.
SOI responded 10 minutes later with a superb strike to level the scores.
However, just before half-time, Aura Galaxy regained the lead.
Galaxy went on to win 2-1.
Munawarah dominate Blue Rovers
At Fernwood, Munawarah and Blue Rovers went head-to-head, with both teams searching for improved form and a much-needed positive result.
Munawarah started strongly, putting Blue Rovers under immediate pressure.
Munawarah led 3-0 at half-time.
Blue Rovers gave their supporters hope early in the second half by scoring, but Munawarah continued their impressive performance and added three more goals to complete a convincing 6-1 win.
